Advocates Say Birmingham Law Firm Abandoned Habeas Petition Effort Midstream

Article from Alabama Gazette Following the Alabama Gazette's recent coverage of the wrongful conviction claims surrounding inmate Murray "Bubba" Lawrence, Jr., his longtime advocacy team is drawing attention to another troubling chapter: the unexpected disengagement of a Birmingham law firm during a critical moment in his post-conviction fight. Lawrence, now having just completed his second decade of imprisonment, has maintained his innocence from the outset-as does the original court transcript. According to lead advocate Francis Paul Ripp, the firm of Maxwell-Tillman had agreed-verbally and through a formal invoice-and with three advocacy witnesses present-to assist in drafting a federal writ of habeas corpus, after all district, appeal, and state-level avenues were exhausted. Nearly half of the firm's stated fee was promptly rendered as a down-payment.

There’s a parcel of land in Baldwin County that’s never been talked about publicly — until now. It’s publicly owned, strategically placed, and tied to a zoning designation that doesn’t match what’s actually there.

The Enforcer: Hoss Mack’s Rise to Statewide Power

Baldwin County may not always make headlines, but it has quietly become one of the most politically influential regions in Alabama — where power is consolidated, narratives are controlled, and those in charge rarely face consequences. Which is why the recent promotion of former Baldwin County Sheriff Hoss Mack should give every Alabamian pause.

Fairhope is playing Russian Roulette in court and the city council has not said a word to the general public. The gun is cocked and aimed at the head of the Fairhope council, the absolute worst in 20 years, who is asleep at the wheel. Tim Kant’s past bad deeds are catching up with Fairhope. First was the Dyas, Triangle, lawsuit. The Mayor, Timmy, and the then council, Boone and Burrell, who were present, pulled a fast one on the city taxpayers. They claimed to settle the lawsuit and the purchase of land, as a “WIN”. This was an absolute lie and cost Fairhope 11.25 million dollars. On top of that the council pledged to the sellers that they were going to build a park. This all turned out to be total B. S. The land remains vacant to this day.

FAIRHOPE THE GOOD Fairhope has come a long way in the last 2 and ½ years. Infrastructure, sewer problems and planning and zoning all have gotten the attention of the new administration. The employees, supervisors and city staff are the best qualified personal the city has ever employed. These accomplishments did not come easy and did not come with any assistance of the Catalyst Council, who has yet to accomplish anything significant. More and more of the citizens of Fairhope are beginning to understand that the council’s agenda has been obstruction and their goal is to overthrow the present government in 2020. Mayor Wilson and staff deserve to be commended on their accomplishments and their promise to put the city before politics.

Justice Denied: A Wrongful Conviction Buried by Power and Politics

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Justice Denied: A Wrongful Conviction Buried by Power and Politics I am speaking out because the truth in this case was never hidden. It was suppressed. Murray Lawrence Jr has spent more than 20 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. The reason he is still there is because the four men who built the case against him, despite a lack of evidence, now hold higher office today. Court records and the Innocence Project findings show that key exculpatory evidence was suppressed during the trial.

Fauxhope municipal elections have started off with a bang. Five candidates have qualified for city council positions, and support one another in a solid slate. A very smart move. Who would want to be a minority councilman facing a well entrenched cabal of good ole boys, developers, politicians, lawyers, judges and let’s not leave out the District Attorney’s Office. The new contenders, running as a solid slate of 5, have caused panic among the current council, who are supported by the developers and special interests, aka Catalyst. In the past 4 election cycles the council has members ran independent of one another, or so they professed. This election is different. The incumbents are united and their message is clear, vote for all of us!
