Fairhope should now begin to see the writing on the wall. The Fairhope City Council is voting as a unit and the council president, Jack Burrell, is calling the shots. One thing that is perfectly clear is that any recommendations from the mayor will be meet with stiff resistance, regardless of it’s merit. The last city council meeting, Sept 11, left little doubt as to how far the council will go to oppose the mayor. The city’s insurance was on the agenda and one bid had been received and a second bid came in 23 hours after the deadline. The second bid was with a company the mayor brought to the table. The council in it’s infinite wisdom decided not to open the second bid and refused to allow both bids to be resubmitted. The end result was the council accepted the bid they wanted and rejected the mayors. That cost taxpayers and employees 60 thousand dollars and better coverage, but the council, again, put their agenda before public trust. Burrell insisted that the decision had nothing to do with the Mayor, remember this, it is very important and will come up again.
How do you clean up corruption? Legislatively, or simply vote them out. However one common denominator is the citizens themselves. When elections results show only 17% of the voters are exercising their right to vote, then it is a good indicator political corruption is flourishing. CORRUPTION IS LEGAL IN AMERICA Study: Congress literally doesn't care what you think Study: Congress literally doesnât care what you think I had no idea how bad things actually were until I saw one simple graph.
Hard to believe a week later we are expecting another hurricane, IRMA, headed towards the United States. Landfall is expected in the Miami area and the destructive route may travel through the entire state of Florida. Please pray for those in Irma’s path and be prepared to help those in need as the storm passes. Baldwin County can expect yet another influx of people as a result of hurricane Harvey and hurricane Irma. We are geographically centered between both storms and can certainly expect storm immigrants. We should welcome them with open arms but we should also open our eyes to growth and infrastructure.
Divorce corp. has many videos related to divorce, custody, visitation and money. Baldwin County fits perfectly into the picture portrayed by Divorce Corp. For months the Ripp Report has been following issues in Fairhope and has not covered topics elsewhere in the county. The mid term elections will certainly be one issue, however the biggest issue should be our courts. Wonderful Wednesday will begin to focus in on our judicial system in particularly the family court system in Baldwin County. Judge Michelle Thomason, District Court Place 1, continues to roll in complaint after complaint while the other judges kick the can down the road and ignore citizens complaints. Her court is responsible for many children being jerked around by the legal system. Her court has developed a cottage industry in Baldwin County out of divorce, at the expense of children.
Get down on your knees and pray for the folks in Texas and Louisiana. Thousands of people lost everything and many more thousands will be affected by the devastating effects of flood water. Please explore a way that you may contribute to those in desperate need of help. Many agencies, churches and organizations will be formed throughout Baldwin County that will be sending different items to storm victims. The Red Cross is the best agency to contribute cash, check, credit cards or money orders. The magnitude of the storm and amount of damage caused by flooding will literally take years to repair and their will be those who have no resources to put their lives back together, they have lost everything and are dependent on help.
Fairhope is at a crossroads and if the community allows Council President Jack Burrell to ban people from speaking during the city council meetings, at public participation, then we have chosen the wrong road. Mr Burrell has orchestrated a campaign of obstructing the office of the Mayor from day one. He is complicit with leaking documents and fueling the Courier’s continued assault on the Mayor. He has convince the rest of the council to be in lockstep with his every move. His personal attacks on the Mayor are well documented and his rampage and revenge stem from an Ethics complaint the Mayor was required by law to file.
The Fly Creek Apartments was the subject of a six day trial in Bay Minette. I spent 6 days observing the trial, listening to evidence and legal arguments. It went to trial because our city council let us down and ignored their campaign promises. Mr Adam Milam, the plaintiff's attorney, Friends of Fly Creek, put it best: “Whether you want apartments or not in the Fairhope area is not the issue. The City Council and Mayor sold out Fairhope and Baldwin County residents when they bowed to political pressure in allowing a large apartment complex, parking lot, and all the attendant runoff, erosion and sedimentation impacts right in the Fly Creek Watershed, an extremely vital watershed that they swore to protect."
The recent US Senate primary statistics indicate 84% of Fairhope eligible voters decided NOT to participate or vote. Mr Strange, as Attorney General also allowed Sen. Pittman to walk with 750,000 dollars of BP money and never mentioned the anchors he left in the Bay, while others were prosecuted for far less BP crimes. Strange as it may seem big Luther now faces multiple ethics complaints.
Senate candidate, and BP contractor, Trip Pittman could not get the oil off him. He was rejected by his constituents and barely got 7% of the vote. Many in Baldwin County predicted he would receive less than 10%, they were right. Baldwin County has now voted out 2 of the three most corrupt politicians in the county. Tim Kant and his partner in BP scam Trip Pittman are history. Jack Burrell, Pittman’s Bible study partner will be next. He will be voted out or maybe indicted prior to the next election for his involvement in the Fairhope Airport Authority “bidding” scandal.
