Get ready, Fairhope Catalyst Council is making their move to capture the Fairhope general election. Everything and anything in Fairhope is connected to politics. I have said more than once that the major negative in Fairhope is the politics.
Last week The Ripp Report was the only source of information that reported on the arrest of Ronan McSharry. In court the defense attorney made the incident political by raising questions about the Mayor.
Fairhope citizens need to watch the first 30 minutes of the Fairhope Work Session, March 27: The first 15 minutes involves the K-1 Center, the next 15 minutes is discussing a Conservation Easement on the Triangle property 109 acres.
Hats off to Councilman Conyers for speaking up for the citizens and encouraging Community Engagement aka Public participation. Mr Conyers is also the Councilman who has encourage the Council, unsuccessfully, to establish a pay grade for the position of Mayor, which has been in limbo since the election of Mayor Wilson.
Baldwin County is full of laughs lately. Politics can cause mental damage and in Baldwin County we need an insane asylum for a few of them.
First we have the “TAX MAN” Chris Elliott, he prefers the title State Senator, saying he has solved the School separation lawsuit between Gulf Shores and Baldwin County Superintendent Eddie Tyler. The reason there is a lawsuit is that Mr Tyler went back on his published promise to abide by the decision of the State Board of Education.
Fairhope City Council has been pedaling backwards their whole term. They now have a chance to pedal forward, putting Fairhope on the map, when it comes to the city supporting education.
PEDALING BACKWARDS The Fairhope City Council is in full re-election mode, for 2020, and are trying desperately to accomplish anything they can claim for a victory. So far, going on three years, they have yet to produce anything they can claim as a major accomplishment.
FAIRHOPE THE GOOD Fairhope has come a long way in the last 2 and ½ years. Infrastructure, sewer problems and planning and zoning all have gotten the attention of the new administration. The employees, supervisors and city staff are the best qualified personal the city has ever employed. These accomplishments did not come easy and did not come with any assistance of the Catalyst Council, who has yet to accomplish anything significant.
SKUNKED What started out to be a “Fresh Start for Fairhope” has turned into a political PAC raising money and preparing for the 2020 Fairhope Municipal elections. All their talk and advertising promotes a change of Government for Fairhope, this part of the equation most agree on. A Council Mayor form of government also has a green light. The sticking point is the City Council being At Large or Districts Here is where you got to be careful around skunk’s, they can take a good thing and make it smell.
It is easy to see that people with special interests, Catalyst connections, or are from the Tim Can’t Club, do not want to see any change in Fairhope Government. They represent about 30% of the City’s population. They know a change of Government will cut off their access to slate candidates and greatly reduce their ability to “control” Fairhope, not Govern but “control.” The current Fairhope City Council is an “at Large Catalyst council” that has the most dismal record of any Fairhope Council in 20 years, they cannot even deliver a budget on time.
Mid-Term elections are less than 60 days away. Is Baldwin County going to elect the Catalyst good ole boy, who is bought and paid for, just because he is republican? That is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome, that’s insanity.
ELLIOTT STACY HAYGOOD = CATALYST - WHO IS IN THE PICTURE? This telling photo is the core group of Elliott Stacy and Haygood, from a few years ago, a political group that represents the “machine”, they are the mules.

This telling photo is the core group of Elliott Stacy and Haygood, from a few years ago, a political group that represents the “machine”, they are the mules. Mr. Elliott was appointed to the County Commission and Dane Haygood was elected as Mayor of Daphne, Mr Stacy retired. The group then morphed into CATALYST and Haygood and Elliott tried to stay in the shadows while maintaining status in Catalyst.
The major goal of Catalyst is to maintain three positions in Baldwin County, Mayor of Fairhope, control of the County Commission and State Senate Seat 32.
