The quality of life has diminished in Fauxhope. The small quaint town of Fauxhope is disappearing and being swallowed up by development. The disconnect between the City Council and Mayor and the community is a mile wide. It is no secret that both council and Mayor were supported by developers. The result of that has increased traffic and caused further strain on an already taxed infrastructure. City priorities are decided by very few people and council meetings are a waste of time.
The backwards backpedaling Fauxhope City Council had to eat crow when it came to eliminating public participation at council meetings. Of course the matter of free speech and public participation was front and center when they denied yours truly the right to speak. The public outcry was resounding and the council got the message loud and clear. Councilman Jack Burrell threw Councilman Martin under the bus. Jack said he was surprised to see the item on the agenda.
I bet only 1 or 2% of the voters in Fairhope know that not one city council person, the mayor or the appointed municipal attorney and municipal judge have been elected or appointed for there 5th year in office. The Alabama legislature thought it necessary to postpone municipal elections in 2024 due to the presidential election. A free year in office, full family insurance and the ability to make decisions for Fairhope's future, without a single vote cast.
In Fairhope, Alabama, there’s a water shortage, incomplete infrastructure projects, and an overloaded sewer system. Amidst legal battles and controversy, 68 Ventures proposes a new mixed-use development, “Park City,” which has drawn criticism for its potential impact on the community and local schools.
The author of a book about the Montrose Hut is proposing to move it, but it's a real estate deal to benefit the owner and city councilman Boone, who is accused of being part of a political machine. The city is looking for donations to cover the moving cost.
Fauxhope has a new City Council Crier, Councilman Cory Martin. This is no surprise the balance of the council hides from the public and rarely return phone calls. This also goes for the unqualified Utility Director and developer candidate/ Mayor. So Cory will be the new uninformed spokesperson, and, sacrificial lamb, for the Fauxhope council.
For those that are just catching up, Fauxhope government, Mayor, Council, Municipal Judge and Municipal Attorney all were supported 100% by special interests, developers, and good ole boys.
The Fauxhope City Council agenda looks like business as usual. However a closer look just shows how the council is doing what THEY damn well want to do, without public discussion. Oh sure they have public participation for three minutes per person. Those who have follow the development elected council know the council is deaf when it comes to any public participation.
Monday’s night council did not fail there standard operating procedure.
Fauxhope elected a council and mayor that represent the godfathers of the Fairhope good ole boys. This council and mayor are back to Mayor Can’t days. The city attorney is put in place to protect “THEIR” agenda. The municipal judge is a major developer in Fauxhope and his developments must meet the approval of the council that “APPOINTED” him as municipal judge.
It would not surprise me if less that 10 people in Fauxhope really know what their city government is doing.
The Bayway Bridge project started years ago with politicians biting their tongue’s and saying little about how they were going to finance the project. Then came the discussion about tolls, again they bit their tongue’s. Next, came Jim Zigler and his Facebook page:
Over 50,000 people liked the site and faster than a politician could tell a lie, they all flipped flopped and said no tolls. A year, and several plans later went by, and all of a sudden Mobile and Baldwin MPO’s have married together to give a unified front FOR tolls.
Fairhope City Council President and Eastern Shore, MPO, Metropolitan Planning Organization, Chairman Jack Burrell considers himself a genius. He is the only one, because he leaves a trail of poor decisions, confusion, and corruption that affects his own constituents in a negative way.
Jack has been busy. He is the Pied Piper of Baldwin County representing the special interests of Catalyst/Scott Boone Consulting.
The Pied Piper is costing Fairhope millions.
